Boma Iluma grew up between Abuja, Nigeria, and Atlanta, Georgia, forging deep emotional and familial ties to both cultures. He began his artistic journey through acting in commercials (Cartoon Network, the NBA) and Atlanta theater before turning to directing. His debut visual piece, Negus, explored the erasure and misinterpretation of Blackness in America and premiered in Los Angeles in 2019. He went on to direct Heirs for Nike’s Air Jordan, a Gen Z-focused reimagining of the brand that debuted at New York Fashion Week 2020. His narrative short Comfort—part of Hillman Grad’s Rising Voices—premiered at Tribeca Film Festival 2021 and was later acquired by Amazon Prime Video. Roman Coppola then tapped him to write and direct a segment in the innovative feature The Seven Faces of Jane. Since then, Boma has directed branded content for Oakley, Jeep, The New Yorker, Ford, Nissan, and others.
In 2022, Boma made his TV debut on Paramount+/Showtime’s The Chi, directing four episodes and becoming one of the network’s youngest directors. Comfort was later exhibited at the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art’s +234 Connect Exhibition. Recognized as a rising force in entertainment, Boma was named to the 2023 Creative Class of Black Culture Shifters by the Creative Collective NYC, featured on Dazed Magazine's 2024 Dazed100 list, and included in Forbes’ 2025 30 Under 30 in Hollywood & Entertainment. He has also directed music videos for artists such as Camila Cabello, Chloe Bailey, JoJo, Oxlade, and Mahalia. Boma is currently developing his feature film debut and additional television projects.
